“In February of 2010 I had the great fortune of playing bass for a singer- songwriter-musician that I have long admired and whose music I have appreciated and enjoyed. The exceptional artist I am referring to is Jonatha Brooke, and last February was the beginning of a several performances that I would have the pleasure of doing with Jonatha throughout that year.

Our first little tour began in the UK, then on to Hamburg, followed by four shows in beautiful Denmark. The first stop in Denmark was a small town/village I had never been nor heard of before. It was some kind of “music school” in a place called Toftlund. Jonatha and some of the other band members had performed there before and were raving about the fabulous time they had there on their last visit.

Already a year has passed, and as I reflect back on my brief visit to Musik og Teaterhøjskolen in Toftlund, I have many fond memories of my own. First and foremost, the incredible hospitality, professionalism, and enthusiasm of Soomi Lunau and her students and colleagues. It is people like Soomi and the gracious folks of Denmark who have such a high regard for music and art that makes my job an absolute joy. It is also wonderful to know that a place like this exists in the world. Nothing makes me happier than seeing a community come together to create a safe, loving, inspiring, and dedicated environment in which to create. After all, I believe our only real obligation in this life is to be the creative beings we are meant to be. Musik og Teaterhøjskole is an oasis for who seek to fulfill their creative desires, and I hope that I can return someday to join in the fun!
