Language
Being a Danish højskole our main language is Danish. Audio engineering, dance and music lines are flexible in both English and in Danish. The theatre line and vocal line are in Danish.
Morning assemblies, messages after lunch, friday lectures all take place in Danish.
Morning Assemblies are compulsory to attend. They are part of your studies. And they are translated.
The daily messages also take place in Danish, messages like “I have lost my key”, “does anyone want to go and swim”, “I cannot find my iPod” to more serious messages from the teachers & Principal regarding your weekly schedules. After the messages are over which normally last for 10-15 minutes, we request you to come to the white board where everything is written down and we translate what has been said. We also expect you to listen to the Danish language and try to put two and two together.
Friday lectures and workshops also take place in Danish. We do our best to translate as much as possible during the term, however at times some lectures are too complicated to be translated.
We offer our foreign students Danish language classes during the semester.
During the term, we will have meetings where we talk openly about “how you are doing”.
It is important that you have to also make the effort to learn and understand the language and culture.
